Restoration of the Egyptian Theatre
Current Projects
Nearly 30 years have passed since the last major renovation of the Egyptian Theatre started back in 1980. Now, many of the elements of the building need to be replaced or repaired once again. A lot of work has been completed over the past few years but we still have some significant projects ahead of us. In the late 70s, Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre (P.E.T.) formed to save the theatre from destruction. As always, P.E.T. is here to address the issues that affect this jewel of DeKalb. As with any historic building, there will always be maintenance, restoration, upgrades and improvements that are needed.
Some of the major projects that will be addressed in the next few years include:
- Adding Air Conditioning (coming in 2012)
- Replacing the carpet throughout the theatre
- Renovating the concessions stand and expanding the restrooms
- Repairing decorative plaster and paint work inside the auditorium
